According to Elektrum’s Operations Manager, Gerli Golberg, unexpected power outages and lightning strikes frequently damage home electronics in households outside major urban centers. Therefore, in sparsely populated areas, especially storm-prone regions, it is worth adding electrical equipment and home assistance insurance to the electricity package. This insurance provides replacement for damaged electrical devices as well as quick assistance with electrical, plumbing, and locksmith issues.

“In recent years, insurance data shows that electrical equipment failures have not decreased. Power outages, lightning, and other voltage fluctuations damage hundreds of devices every year. Our customers most often claim compensation for repairing or replacing coffee machines, dishwashers, routers, and televisions, but refrigerator damages are also quite common,” Golberg stated.

Elektrum’s Klõps ja korras! (Click and Fixed!) insurance, costing just €2.54, provides insurance coverage for all Elektrum customers’ consumption points, covering up to €1,000 in repair or replacement costs for damaged electrical devices.

“For example, if a customer owns a home in Tallinn, a rental apartment in Pärnu, and a summer house in Saatse or the Sõrve Peninsula, they can get 24/7 home assistance service for all their consumption points under one contract. In addition to electrical failures, this service also provides help with plumbing emergencies and other sanitary issues. Rural residents are well aware of how difficult it can be to get quick plumbing assistance or find an electrician for an urgent call-out – Elektrum’s insurance partner, If Insurance, ensures that fast help is available in every corner of Estonia,” Golberg assured.

According to her, the Klõps ja korras! insurance also covers locksmith services and temporary security guarding in case, for example, a burglar damages a lock while waiting for replacement.

This additional insurance service can be added to any Elektrum electricity package. Golberg emphasized that the electrical equipment and home assistance insurance is not intended to replace home insurance but rather to complement it.

“With home insurance, the deductible is usually a couple of hundred euros, while Klõps ja korras! insurance has a deductible of only €50, and there is no deductible for 24/7 home assistance service calls. This way, customers can decide based on the extent of the damage whether to claim compensation through their home insurance or Elektrum’s service,” she explained.

Golberg noted that while the risk of lightning damage is lower in cities, power fluctuations and substation failures still occur in major urban centers.

“Often, customers sign up for insurance with their summer house or country home in mind, but end up using the service even more for household electrical failures or water emergencies. Therefore, while Klõps ja korras! insurance is undoubtedly essential in rural areas, it is also a cost-effective extra layer of protection for city dwellers. Considering the price of a cup of coffee at a café, €2.54 for insurance is an incredibly affordable solution,” she concluded.
