Hepa and Elektrum to build a fast-charging network in Rapla County

The boutique fuel station chain Hepa and Elektrum Eesti have opened the region’s first electric vehicle fast-charging station in Järvakandi. The station, powered entirely by renewable energy, marks the start of a collaboration between the two companies, aimed at rapidly expanding the fast-charging network in Rapla County in the coming years and bringing new charging opportunities also to Pärnu County.

As part of the cooperation project, Elektrum will install dual-outlet 150 kW chargers in ten Hepa stations over the next two years. In addition, all new Hepa stations to be built in the near future will be equipped with fast chargers.

The first Elektrum Drive charging station is now operating at Hepa’s brand-new Järvakandi station, which will soon expand into a modern full-service facility with a shop and café. To celebrate the opening, EV drivers can charge their cars at a 30% discount until the end of September.

“Hepa offers travellers a comprehensive and modern service. Our cooperation with Elektrum Drive helps us keep pace with the development of electric transport and support our customers’ transition to environmentally friendly solutions. Järvakandi is the first milestone in our joint project – we will continue to expand both the charging network and other additional services that today’s customers expect from a fuel station chain,” said Kaspar Nisu, Member of the Management Board of Hepa.

According to Agnes Makk, CEO of Elektrum Eesti, it is important to bring new charging opportunities also to places where they have so far been unavailable.

“Range anxiety is one of the main reasons hindering the broader uptake of electric vehicles. That’s why opening a charger in Järvakandi is a symbolic step – it shows that the convenience of the green transition is gradually reaching beyond big cities and main highways,” said Makk.

She explained that the cooperation launched with Hepa is part of Elektrum’s investment of more than €50 million, which will create over 1,000 Elektrum Drive charging points across Estonia by the end of the decade. By the end of 2025, Estonia will already have more than 330 Elektrum Drive charging points, over 600 by the end of 2026, and 800 by the end of 2027.

“Approximately two-thirds of the planned charging stations will be located in sparsely populated areas both on the mainland and on the islands,” she confirmed, adding: “Through our cooperation project with Hepa, we are simultaneously expanding fast-charging opportunities across Estonia. Already by the end of this year, Elektrum Drive will become the leading provider of fast and ultra-fast charging services in Estonia.”

Elektrum Eesti is an energy sales company that, in addition to electricity, also offers natural gas, solar energy, and EV charging solutions under the Elektrum Drive brand. The Elektrum Drive charging network covers the entire Baltic region, making charging convenient and seamless for Elektrum’s customers in all three countries. Elektrum Eesti is part of the Latvenergo Group, the largest energy supplier and green energy producer in the Baltics. Across the region, the group serves 884,000 customers, with 73% of its energy production coming from renewable sources.

Hepa is an Estonian fuel station chain offering a wide range of services in its 12 stations, from fuel sales to coffee, fast food, car wash, and trailer rental. The company’s headquarters are in Rapla, with stations in Rapla, Pärnu, and Viljandi counties.

Hepa contributes to local entrepreneurship by offering products from small local producers alongside well-known brands. The company also supports local sports initiatives – as of this year, Hepa is the title sponsor of Rapla Basketball Club.
